There is really nothing quite like the scent of an old book...a fragrance of whiskey and old leather, or forgotten history and true lies.

Baldwin Book Barn is just about all you could ever want or imagine in a bookstore. The look of it seems caught between a glimpse of the past and a child's story book.

Navigating, this once functioning barn, is it's own Olympic sport. I enjoyed ducking through the low Hobbit-like door ways and sometimes, shimmying sideways up the staircases. So, truly, making your way through is not for the tender-hearted. Still, as with any old bookstores, a person can easily lose themselves for a good few hours browsing the floors to seek out a hidden gem.

I was surprised, and a little disappointed to discover that with such a large inventory, the Sci-fi section was relatively tiny in comparison with the rest of the genres displayed.

But still, it's worth the trip, and the staff on hand are even knowledgeable about the the history of the building as well as the inventory of books. So, go ahead, get lost in the stacks!

This was/is an amazing museum/bookstore itself. 4 floors of books! Very old ones from 1800s to some current 2024. This is a great place to buy books for the bookworms out there. Ill definitely make a trip again to purchase a book or many. Its in the Downingtown area in Pa. I love how its an old barn transformed into storing books!

We were visiting Pennsylvania from the UK and, thanks to a friend who knows us well, we ended up at the Book Barn on our way back from a trip to see the site of the battle of Brandywine. As tourists hoping to visit Philadelphia, there's almost no chance we would've stumbled over this amazing bookshop by ourselves, and I'm so glad we did ?

But for the luggage restrictions on our flight home, I think we'd have bought quite a few more books, but we were happy with just a handful ?

I found this place recently on FB and looks like it has been featured on Good Morning America and 6abc.

This place is simply a tapestry of books and literature. Everything about this book store is simply amazing. The staff is real friendly. You know you are going to a huge place when they have a map for you to take with you.

There is so much to explore and you can easily spend hours here. Just be extra careful when going up the stairs to each level. It is a bit steep.

Had a really fun time exploring the four floors with my wife. We left with some great finds. Books are reasonably priced, it's not a thrift store so expect a touch higher than that, but still not bad. It was a fun time. I'll be pleased to return someday.

Unique experience, four stories of used books ranging across so many subjects and languages. It was fun exploring each level and finding the nooks and crannies. Likely some real gems hidden in here for the determined collector!
