We had a lovely few days in Oxford this week. The only sour note was the disgustingly rude older American female shop assistant that we had the displeasure of meeting this afternoon. I went in for a few minutes and was lining up a few books to buy. The "lady" was very disparaging to my Son who was waiting outside with my Wife and spoke to us in a very rude manner. I immediately left and went to Waterstones where i was treated incredibly well by a young shop assistant with a fantastic attitude! Clearly age is no indication of wisdom. The shop assistant in question needs to take a good, long, hard look in the mirror. As can be seen from previous reviews, we're not the only people this individual has been rude to.

Loved it! The store is pretty small so you don't have to look for long, but there still is a lot of variety. The prices are amazing and in my opinion, finally some fair book prices in the area. There are unique books and even signed copies, so look out for that. Great for something to do while waiting on the bus

This shop has some lovely books and is a treasure trove of hard-to-find or unusual remainders.

However, they play frustratingly fast and loose with their own opening hours! Why they went to the expense of painting the closing times on the glass door I don’t know, given how many times I’ve turned up fifteen minutes before closing time to find the lights off and/or the proprietor denying entry. A real shame.

Very rude staff. I walked in to buy my toddler a book whilst on the phone to my mother who was looking after him, when he had been distressed. The woman behind the counter rudely told me to hang up my call, even though I was not being loud, had only just walked in the shop and would have been in there all of 2 minutes. Didn't buy anything due to her rudeness. Very unfortunate as I usually enjoy this shop and staff. Would advice additional training for this member of staff. Older lady with greying short hair.

nice little book store with affordable prices. Much cheaper than some of the larger book stores, but it is a smaller store so keep in mind that the selection of books is, of course, a bit more limited. staff are really friendly

Passive aggressive bookseller just makes up prices on the spot. Despite the signs saying everything £5 or less, and a book actually labelled as £5, the lady bookseller tried to charge £30 for a sealed book at checkout. When I questioned this, and pointed to the £5 label on the book, she told me “I don’t care what the price label says, it’s £30 not £5” and then started wittering away about how each book was £2 or something or other. At this point I bought the other books in my basket, which surprisingly she did charge me correctly for, and made a mental note to always go to Waterstones or Blackwells next time.

Wouldn’t bother going here - my partner and I went, and he allowed me a minute to choose any books I wanted for him to buy for me - a nice gift and a sweet gesture for our anniversary. The American woman working there was incredibly rude to my partner, talking about him to other customers and saying she wished she could “tell him where to go.” She then told my partner off for “being rude to a woman” (me!) and when we explained that he was actually buying me gifts with a fun timed-crunch aspect, she said she didn’t care, and that he shouldn’t speak to a woman that way. She didn’t seem to realise that I’m a grown woman who can speak up for myself, and I found the experience very belittling and uncomfortable. I put the books down and left - we’ve shopped there a few times before but we definitely won’t be returning. As a former bookseller myself, I wouldn’t dream of speaking to customers like that.
