The facility is absolutely amazing there's no doubt about that... The staff members are the ones that unfortunately make me write this review as a two-star place. From people like Izra being condescending towards students as well as people like Mike that eavesdrop into your sessions. You can't even use an editing Bay without people trying to listen in on your content being nosy. I deliberately was talking about a certain subject as you walked by just to see if you would poke your head back around the corner and you did... It's unfortunate that they have a conduct policy for everyone that walks in there except for the staff... Because they certainly don't hold them to anything and don't get me started on the politics of gaining access to the music studio... You look down on people sooo here's that same judgement coming back to you... Step your game up and get better people that want to help others succeed... It's disturbing to watch so I only frequent this place... I've been here enough in the last two years and I've seen enough from the Melrose Center to make this review. Please Note Not all staff members are like this, some actually are great human beings...

I love the Melrose center, it’s a place where you can find tons of resources (most) free of cost if you are an Orange County resident and member of the public library. I initially went for the photography studio that I was going to used for some product pictures for e-commerce, then after orientation I found out all the cool things they offer. They have classes and state-of-the-art audio, computers, labs. The staff is always there to help you, excellent service as well. It’s a great place indeed

While they have an impressive amount of equipment the staff isn’t the friendliest and it takes weeks even months for reservations as staff and private events get first dibs

The resources are great. The people who run the desk and manage check-ins are seriously misinformed about them, though. I get told I have a time limit, but it's okay I can always give it a little and come back. Be literal with this.
If you use Creative Cloud on their computers, you only have a 3 hour limit (for the day, the whole day, and not a minute more). Don't be fooled by their vague speech about "you can come back". That means you have to wait for the library to fully close, then re-open to use the Creative Cloud again on their system.
They also said we could go to different branches. After calling them to confirm at another branch, they said that Creative Cloud is available only in the Melrose center downtown. The computers were slow and glitchy and distracting (the timeline kept flashing if I didn't save it after EVERY edit I made).
The people there are getting paid to sit at a desk and lie and condescend to tax paying residents of Orange County.

It’s the best library in the country. I’ve learned so much for my company with editing, photography and d video production

Driving simulator is pretty good helps me feel more confident. It’s locked but doesn’t feel safe because any crazy person can walk up to the glass wall and try to harass you to try to get in. There’s no security there most of the time and no one will do anything to help you if people try to get in the room with you or try to get your attention.

A lot of homeless people at this location and not enough security. It’s open to the public as it should be but that includes anyone with mental problems who wants to come in and bother people. I was recently harassed by a random stranger trying to get in the room with me and some of the workers took it lightly saying they were just making a bad joke. At least the manager took me seriously because it was scary to have some random aggressive man try to bother me. Too bad they don’t hire more security especially with a large homeless population with possible mental health conditions standing around the entrance.

Great free resources, sketchy unsecured area. I wish they’d move the simulator to the interior part of the Melrose center away from non members. I’d feel safer.
